Geelong Football Club 2016

The Geelong Football Club was established in 1859 and is second behind the Melbourne Football Club as the oldest club of any code in the world. Known as the 'Cats’ they entered the league as a foundation club in 1897 and during their existence have won 8 premierships.

Geelong play their home matches at Simonds Stadium in Geelong, which is about a 30 minute drive down the Princes Highway from Melbourne, and club colours are navy blue and white.

Geelong is the home of former champion player Gary Ablett Snr who is considered by many to be one of the games greatest players. The legend's son Gary Ablett Jnr, a dual Brownlow Medal winner, also played for the Cats before making the move to the Gold Coast Suns for the 2011 season.

In recent times, the Cats have become the benchmark for other teams and completed their third Grand Final win in five years when they defeated Collingwood for the 2011 flag. Geelong also took out the 2007 & 2009 premierships in the most successful era for the proud club.
