Hawthorn Football Club

The Hawthorn Football Club was founded in 1925 and joined the league in the same year. Hawthorn is a Melbourne based team and plays their home matches at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), with club colours brown and gold.

Nicknamed the Hawks, they have won 10 premierships since entering the league and most recently as underdogs they defeated Geelong in the 2008 Grand Final. The current team is jammed packed with stars such as Lance Franklin, Luke Hodge and Sam Mitchell which points to a successful future for the Hawks.

Hawthorn had a disappointing year in 2009 after failing to make the finals and winning just the 9 games for the season. They won the premiership the previous season and were expected to become a major force in 2009, but injuries to key players and a loss of form to major stars seen them finish outside the top eight. The Hawks will be looking for big improvements in the 2010 season and hoping for a more settled back line.
