Hawthorn Football Club 2012

The Hawthorn Football Club was founded in 1925 and joined the league in the same year. Hawthorn is a Melbourne based team and plays their home matches at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), with club colours brown and gold.

Nicknamed the Hawks, they have won 10 premierships since entering the league and most recently as underdogs they defeated Geelong in the 2008 Grand Final. The current team is jammed packed with stars such as Lance Franklin, Luke Hodge and Sam Mitchell which points to a successful future for the Hawks.

After an injury ravaged season Hawthorn did a remarkable job to end up just a couple of kicks away from a Grand Final berth. Coach Alistair Clarkson unearthed some great talent in Isaac Smith, Paul Puopolo, Liam Shiels, Shane Savage, Luke Breust and Matt Suckling to suggest the Hawks are going to be even better with more games under their belt.

Hawthorn 2011 Best and Fairest winner: Sam Mitchell

Sam Mitchell had a wonderful season in 2011 and finished second in the Brownlow Medal with 30 votes, although he was ineligible due to suspension. He ended the season with 701 disposals, 12 goals, and averaged more than 4 tackles a game.
