The Melbourne Football Club was established in 1858 as the oldest club of any code in the world. They entered the league in 1897 and play their home matches at The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) with club colours red and navy blue.
Winning 12 premierships overall, the Demons were a were a power side from 1954 to 1961 when they played in 7 consecutive Grand Finals, winning five along the way. The Demons have languished in the bottom half of the league ladder in recent years and have had little success in recent times.

Melbourne in 2011
Once again Melbourne promised much but delievered little, although the improved form of Jack Watts showed why he was the number one draft selection three years ago. Injury to number one ruckman Mark Jamar allowed young Stefan Martin to flourish in his absence, while players such as Max Gawn and Luke Tapscott all showed great improvement with more games.
After the thrashing by Geelong in the latter half of the season Melbourne sacked coach Dean Bailey and have subsequently appointed former Collingwood assistant coach Mark Neeld to the helm.
Melbourne 2011 Best and Fairest winner: Brent Moloney
Brent Moloney was outstanding for the Demons and played his best football when Mark Jamar was feeding it down his throat. With 509 disposals, 9 goals, and almost 6 tackles per game, Moloney was the stand out performer for Melbourne in season 2011.
