Richmond Football Club 2017

The Richmond Football Club is a Melbourne based club which was established in 1908 and are nicknamed the ‘Tigers’. Their home matches are played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) and club colours are yellow and black.

Richmond has won 10 premierships in their proud history, with 1980 the most recent win, when they demolished Collingwood to the tune of 80 points. They have struggled for on-field success in recent times, with regular finishes in the bottom eight of the league ladder, but they have improved under Damian Hardwicke in recent years to make multiple finals appearances.

Richmond has a strong supporter base who follow the Tigers loyally through thick or thin, ensuring a strong club.

Richmond 2016 Season

It was an unforgettable year for Richmond in season 2016 as they continually let supporters down with poor performances. They lost five of their first six matches and were never in the hunt after that.

On a brighter note, often under siege midfielder Dustin Martin has an outstanding year. Martin had most kicks (427), most handballs (257), for a total of 684 possessions for the season. He topped off a great year with victory in the club's best and fairest award.

The usual suspects Trent Cotchin and Alex Rance were solid contributors for the Tigers, while Bachar Houli and Shaun Grigg were serviceable, although down on their usual output.

Richmond blooded youngsters such as Daniel Rioli, Connor Menadue and Jayden Short, with Oleg Markov also getting game time.

The inclusion of Josh Caddy (Geelong), Dion Prestia (Gold Coast) and Toby Nankervis (Sydney Swans) over the off season should benefit the Tigers, although that's offset by the loss of experienced players Brett Deledio (GWS Giants) and Tyrone Vickery (Hawthorn).

Richmond 2016 Best and Fairest winner: Dustin Martin

Midfielder Dustin Martin claimed his first Richmond best and fairest when he took out the 2016 Jack Dyer Medal by one vote over last year's winner Alex Rance. Martin polled 62 votes and Rance managed 61, with third place going to Trent Cotchin on 51 votes.

Richmond in 2017

Richmond has fared well in the first five rounds of the 2017 AFL fixture with four games at the MCG against sides they will fancy themselves against, and an away trip to the Gabba to play the lowly Brisbane Lions. All five matches are winnable and could give Richmond a great start to the season if they can capitalize on their opportunities.

Unfortunately for Tigers fans, they have no Friday night games during the season. Double up matches for the Tigers are against Greater Western Sydney, St Kilda, Carlton, Fremantle and the Brisbane Lions, while they have six six-day breaks and a bye in Round 12.

As usual, Richmond play Carlton in their opening match of the home and away season and they play St Kilda at the MCG in the final round.
