St Kilda Football Club 2017

The St Kilda Football Club was a foundation club of the VFL in 1897 who are located in Melbourne and steeped in tradition. Nicknamed the 'Saints’ they play their home matches at Etihad Stadium and club colours are red, white and black.

St Kilda has won only the one premiership in their proud history which was in 1966 when they defeated Collingwood by 1 point in one of the great grand finals. They hold the record of 27 for the most wooden spoons (finishing last on the league ladder).

Up until the past couple of years the Saints were regular finals contributors but they were unable to capitalise when it mattered most, falling short in multiple Grand Finals against Geelong and Collingwood.

St Kilda 2016 Season

St Kilda surprised many in 2016 by almost making the finals on the back of some extremely exciting football. The future looks bright for the Saints and continued improvement will see them challenging for a finals berth in the new season.

Midfielder Jack Steven had most possessions for the club with 615 and snared his third best and fairest award after another oustanding season. Ageless captain Nick Riewoldt continued to be a focal point up front and kicked 41 goals for the year.

Sebastion Ross emerged as a player of the future averaging almost 27 touches a game, as did Tim Membrey, who led the goal kicking with 44 majors. Leigh Montagna, Jack Newnes and David Armitage had good seasons. along with Josh Bruce, who scored 38 goals up forward.

The inclusion of Nathan Brown (Collingwood), Jack Steele (GWS) and Koby Stevens (Western Bulldogs) will strengthen the Saints even further, and a fit & firing Jake Carlisle will also bolster their stocks.

St Kilda 2016 Best and Fairest winner: Jack Steven

Jack Steven took home his third Trevor Barker Award for St Kilda after another outstanding season in the midfield. Steven scored 172 votes to defeat runner-up Jarryn Geary on 157 votes and third went to Nick Riewoldt on 153 votes.
