West Coast Eagles 2016 Season

The West Coast Eagles had an indifferent first half of the season before hitting full steam in the second half of the year. They finished the home & away season full of running with wins over finalists GWS Giants (away), Hawthorn (home) and Adelaide Crows (away). Unfortuntely, they were belted at home in an Elimination Final by eventual premiers the Western Bulldogs.

Losing Nic Natanui to an achilles injury for an extended part of the season was a huge loss for the Eagles but they managed to play some good football in his absence.

Andrew Gaff had most possessions for West Coast with 657 touches, while Matthew Priddis and Luke Shuey managed 597 & 596 disposals respectively. Shuey won the club's best & fairest award after an outstanding year.

Up forward, Josh Kennedy headed the goal kicking with 82 goals, from Jack Darling 44, Mark Lecras 38 and Jamie Cripps 28.

West Coast Eagles 2016 Best and Fairest winner: Luke Shuey

Midfielder Luke Shuey claimed the 2016 John Worsfold Medal with 157 votes, defeating Josh Kennedy on 146 votes. Last year's winner Andrew Gaff finished third on 140 votes.

West Coast Eagles in 2017

The West Coast Eagles have five six-day breaks during season 2017 but only play two finalists from last season twice, those being the Bulldogs and Giants.

They have two Thursday night games and one Friday night match, with a bye in Round 12.

Double up games for the Eagles are against the Western Bulldogs, GWS Giants, St Kilda, Port Adelaide and Fremantle.

The West Coast Eagles are away to North Melbourne in the opening round of the season and host the Adelaide Crows in Perth in the final round.
