AFL Football 2009
Friday night football in Round 14 has a blockbuster in store when more than 80,000 fans should flock to the MCG to see the in-form Collingwood tale on a fast and exciting Essendon team in what should be a fantastic spectacle.

Saturday afternoon at the MCG sees a battle at the bottom end of the ladder when a disappointing Melbourne take on an improving West Coast outfit at the MCG, while over in the city ofchurches Port Adelaide meet the Brisbane Lions at AAMI stadium in a must win game for the home team. Saturday night at the Gold Coast sees Richmond do battle with the Adelaide Crows, while a big game will take place at Etihad stadium under lights with the Western Bulldogs facing a Hawthorn team at the cross roads.

Sunday afternoon in the early game the Sydney Swans will be looking to bounce back against Nth Melbourne at the MCG, while at Etihad in the afternoon the much anticipated clash between the league's two unbeaten teams St Kilda and Geelong takes place at Etihad stadium. In the twilight clash Fremantle will meet Carlton in Perth at Subiaco oval in a must win game for the Blues.

Average stats over the past 5 rounds show both sides to be very attacking with Collingwood being much better defensively only conceding 10 goals a game, although it is worth noting they have played all teams outside the top 8 in their past 5 weeks. The Pies are ahead in most areas especially disposals for goal both for & against, and the Bombers are going to have to improve their inside 50s and defensively against the Pies if they want to score a second win against Collingwood this season.

Early markets have the Pies at $1.51 with the Bombers at $2.58 and considering Essendon has scored 18+ goals in 4 of their past 5 games then they are probably good value on that stat alone. The one blemish in their past 5 games was a big loss to Geelong when they only scored 11 goals. Collingwood has become very settled defensively in recent weeks with little change and they are not conceding high scores, although the Bombers will be the best team they have played since they played St Kilda and Carlton in Round 7 & 8.

The Bombers speed will test Collingwood and this should be a great match and the Pies at $1.51 are a bit short for ours considering Essendon always get themselves up for the Pies and have won the past two encounters. Having said that, this is a game Collingwood is expected to win but the Bombers are clearly value at $2.58 on recent form.

The Crows score a goal every 24 possessions compared to the Tigers 34 which is a significant factor and Richmond will find it tough getting inside 50 on a regular basis.
