VICTORIA
Victoria is recognised as the home of racing in Australia with prestigious international races such as the Melbourne Cup and WS Cox Plate the centrepiece of spring racing.

Racing Victoria Limited is the governing body of racing in the state of Victoria.

The Victoria Racing Club is the major racing club and races at Flemington, while the Melbourne Racing Club races at Caulfield and Sandown. The Moonee Valley Racing Club is home to the Mooney Valley racecourse where they hold the Weight for age championship of Australasia, the Cox Plate.

Victoria is home to the Melbourne Cup and spring racing carnival.

NEW SOUTH WALES
The NSW Thoroughbred Racing Board governs racing in New South Wales and the principal race club is the Australian Turf Club, which races at Royal Randwick, Rosehill Gardens, Warwick Farm and Canterbury Park.

In February 2011, the Australian Jockey Club (AJC - Randwick & Warwick Farm) and the Sydney Turf Club (STC - Rosehill & Canterbury) officially merged to form a new racing club in Sydney, the Australian Turf Club (ATC) to conduct racing in Sydney.

NSW is home to the Golden Slipper and AJC Derby in the Autumn.

QUEENSLAND
Queensland racing is governed by the Queensland Thoroughbred Racing Board, and the major club is the Brisbane Racing Club which formed in July 2009 after an amalgamation of the Queensland Turf Club, which formerly raced at Eagle Farm, and the Brisbane Turf Club, which looked after Doomben.

QLD is home to the Stradbroke Handicap in winter.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA
Thoroughbred Racing S.A. Limited governs racing in South Australia and the principal club is the South Australian Jockey Club, which races at Morphettville racecourse for all city meetings, after the closing of Victoria Park and Cheltenham racetracks in 2008 and 2009 respectively.

A new city track named 'The Parks' was created for racing at Allan Scott Park Morphettville in June 2009, which now means there is a second city turf course in Adelaide that will host around 70 city meetings a year. SA is home to the Goodwood and Sangster Stakes.

WESTERN AUSTRALIA
Racing and Wagering WA governs racing in Western Australia and it is a government-owned body. Western Australian Turf Club (now known as Perth Racing) is the principal club and holds racing at Belmont Park and Ascot Racecourse.

WA is home to the Railway Stakes and Perth Cup.
