The Brisbane Winter Carnival
takes place in the months of May and June each year and racing in Queensland is administered by the recently formed Brisbane Racing Club which host group racing at Doomben and Eagle Farm race tracks.
Major Group One races include the Doomben 10,000 over 1350 metres at Doomben racecourse in May, while the other big event in Brisbane is the Stradbroke Handicap over 1400 metres at Eagle Farm racecourse in June. The Group 2 Brisbane Cup over 2400m is also held at Eagle Farm in June.
Other Group One events held at Doomben are the BTC Cup over 1200 metres and the XXXX Doomben Cup over 2020 metres which both take place in May, while Eagle Farm also hosts quality Group One races such as the T.J. Smith over 1600 metres, the Queensland Oaks and Queensland Derby both over 2400 metres and all take place in June.
December sees the running of a number of listed races at both Doomben and Eagle Farm and the only group race to take place during this time is the Group 3 George Moore Stakes at Doomben.
