The Caulfield Cup is worth $1,500,000 and has trophies valued at $44,000 and it is the highlight of the Caulfield racing carnival in October each year. The Caulfield racing carnival is held over three days with Group 1 races on each day, including the Caulfield Guineas on the first Saturday, the Thousand Guineas midweek on the Wednesday, and finally the Caulfield Cup on the following Saturday. The first Caulfield Cup was won by Newminster way back in 1879 and the race has now become an integral part of the spring racing carnival in Melbourne.
