The Coolmore Stud Stakes is a Group One race for three-year-olds raced at set weights down the Flemington straight course over 1200 metres during the Melbourne Spring racing carnival. The race was formerly a Group Two race known as the 'Ascot Vale Stakes' and was raised to Group One status In 2007 and the race name changed to the Coolmore Stud Stakes.

The 3yo sprint takes place on Victoria Derby Day which is the first day of the four day Flemington spring racing carnival and three days before the time honoured Melbourne Cup.
