The Crown Oaks
is the female equivalent of the Victoria Derby for colts & geldings and is Melbourne's premier staying event for three-year-old Fillies during the Melbourne spring racing carnival. The Crown Oaks is run over the same distance as the Derby which is 2500 metres but it's restricted to fillies carrying set weights of 55.5 kilograms.
The Crown Oaks is held on the third day of the Flemington four day racing carnival and it's always run on the Thursday two days after the Melbourne Cup and two days before the final day which is Emirates Stakes day.
The Crown Oaks day itself is known as "Ladie's Day" and not only are there good types on 4 legs there are also quality types on two legs as Melbourne's finest ladies get dressed up and go the races to enjoy the festivities on offer. The race has prizemoney of $1,000,000 & $5,000 trophies and was won in 2009 by the Bart Cumming's filly Faint Perfume.
