The Geelong Cup is a Group Three race held annually late October at Geelong racecourse in Geelong which is situated about 72 kilometres south-west of Melbourne. Held during the prestigious Melbourne spring racing carnival the race is an open handicap event run over a distance of 2400 metres.
Taaking place on the Wednesday following the Caulfield Cup and three days before the WS Cox Plate, the Geelong Cup is one of the bigger country cups to be held during the spring carnival and can often attract quality stayers capable of performing very well in some of the major staying races of the spring, such as the Melbourne Cup
at Flemington.
