The Manikato Stakes is a quality Group 1 weight-for-age event that takes place at Moonee Valley during the Melbourne spring racing carnival and attracts some of Australia's best sprinters. The race has also known as the ‘Freeway Stakes’ and was changed in 1984 to honour the mighty Manikato.
The race is now held on a Friday night under lights which makes for a great spectacle with fans being so close to the action at Moonee Valley.
