2012 Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival
The
Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival is not as big as the springtime equivalent but it still has a number of quality races with the major day being Super Saturday at Flemington racecourse in early March.
The first Group 1 of the autumn is the CF Orr Stakes over 1400 metres at Caulfield racecourse in February.
Caulfield hosts the big 2yo race of the autumn when the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes over 1200 metres takes place at Caulfield racecourse in February, while Moonee Valley racecourse sees the running of the Group 1 William Reid Stakes over 1200 metres at weight-for-age.
Super Saturday is held at Flemington in early March with two major Group 1 races, the Australian Cup over 2000 metres and the big autumn sprint the Newmarket Handicap down the 1200 metre straight course. Super Saturday has grown into one of the quality race days on the Australian racing calendar each year.
