The Memsie Stakes is a weight-for-age race that is run over a distance of 1400 metres at Caulfield racecourse in Melbourne during the Melbourne spring racing carnival. A Group 2 event, the race is run under the same conditions as the JJ Liston Stakes a fortnight earlier, but the Memsie Stakes generally attracts better quality gallopers and is a more reliable guide to the bigger spring races still ahead
The Memsie Stakes, like the Liston, is a good race for spring hopefuls returning from a spell to see how they have progressed and winners and placegetters often go on to be stars of the spring.
Solid, fit winter horses are quite capable of stretching the classy types and fitness can often overcome class if conditions are favourable, but more often than not the best horse in the race will win. The race is worth $200,000 and was won in 2010 by the exciting galloper So You Think.
Below you will find Memsie Stakes winners and placegetters dating back to 1990.
