Australian Horse Racing Form Averages
The horse racing form averages on this site are for Metropolitan racing around Australia and major cup meetings from provincial tracks. The averages are purely a guide to the better performed horses in a race. They will not tell you who the winner will be, but they will aid you in your form study for any particular race you may be interested in.

Racing Averages: These are compiled by adding up average prizemoney, win and place percentage of each horse in a race. The totals are then averaged out to find the average for the field. Those that are well above average in each category would be considered to be well placed in the race according to the field average.

Average Prizemoney: Any horse who has the highest average prizemoney in a race has most likely raced against stronger fields, won better races, or been very consistent in its career. Therefore horses with above average prizemoney in a race are generally worth considering further with other form factors. Bear in mind that a horse could also win one major race worth a lot of prizemoney and then have an inflated average prizemoney because of that one win.

Average Win%: The higher a horse's win strike rate the more the horse knows how to win. I never back a horse unless they have a minimum win percentage of at least 25% and that ensures I am backing a horse that has won at least one in four races over it's career. Winning horses keep on winning and losing horses keep on losing, the higher the win percentage the better performed your horse will be and they can be backed with confidence, especially those over 40% win strike.

Average Place%: Good horses will continually run good races and often finish in the placings without winning and they are handy to have for exotic betting such as trifectas and quinellas. A consistent horse would have a place percentage of at least 50% and ideally have a win% of at least 25% to match.

Conclusion: If you find a horse in a race who has above average prizemoney, win%, and place% then you have found a horse who is worth a much closer look as they have some very good factors in their favour. If the horse is also a track and distance winner then you may well have a value bet!
