The Sydney Spring Racing Carnival takes place during August, September and early October each year at Randwick, Rosehill and Warwick Farm race tracks in Sydney.
Finishing around one week before the running of the Caulfield Guineas at Caulfield in Melbourne, the Sydney spring carnival ends only a few weeks before Australia's most famous race, the Melbourne Cup on the first Tuesday in November at Flemington.
While not as big as the Melbourne spring equivalent, the Sydney carnival does have a number of quality feature races and the weight-for-age Group 3 Missile Stakes kicks off the group racing season in early August at Rosehill racecourse.
The first Group One race of the Sydney spring racing carnival is the $1,000,000 Golden Rose at Rosehill racecourse in late September, while Randwick hosts two major race days on two of the final three Saturdays of the carnival, George Main Stakes day and Epsom Handicap day.
The George Main Stakes is held on the first day of the Randwick carnival and is a highly regarded Group One weight-for-age race over 1600 metres that generally attracts very good horses, while the final day at Royal Randwick is highlighted by the Group One Epsom Handicap which is one of the toughest mile races on the racing calendar each year.
