The VRC AAMI Victoria Derby
is one of the great classic races on the racing calendar and the premier staying event for three-year-olds in Melbourne during the Spring Racing Carnival. The VRC Victoria Derby is a set weights event run over a distance of 2500 metres at the spacious Flemington racecourse in Melbourne.
Outstanding gallopers Dulcify, Mahogany, Red Anchor and Sovereign Red have all won the Derby and it is a race all owners, trainers and jockeys strive to win.

The VRC AAMI Victoria Derby is held on the first day of the Flemington four day racing carnival and it is always run on the Saturday before the Melbourne Cup which is the following Tuesday, before the Crown Oaks on the Thursday, followed by the final day on Saturday which is Emirates Stakes day.
