WS Cox Plate is a time honoured weight-for-age event held at Moonee Valley during the Melbourne spring racing carnival and attracts only the very best gallopers from Australasia and around the world. The WS Cox Plate is a weight-for-age event run over a distance of 2040 metres in October each year at Moonee Valley racecourse in Melbourne and is considered to be the Australasian weight-for-age championship of Australia.

WS Cox Plate day is held at Moonee Valley on a Saturday, one week after the Caulfield Cup at Caulfield, and a week before the Victoria Derby at Flemington which is the following Saturday, and provides a springboard to the Flemington carnival with four other group races over a variety of distances.The Cathay Pacific Airways Cup over 2500 metres and AAMI Vase over 2040 metres provide Cup and Derby trials for stayers and three-year-old Spring hopefuls, while the Schweppes Stakes over 1200m and Crystal Mile at 1600m do the same for sprinters up to a mile.
The WS Cox Plate is now worth over $3,000,000 with $50,000 in trophies and is the race where legends are made.
