The Yalumba Stakes is a Group One weight-for-age race over the middle distance of 2000 metres and is held at Caulfield during the Melbourne Spring racing carnival annually in October. The Yalumba Stakes is also referred to as the 'Caulfield Stakes' and is one of the premier races of the Caulfield racing carnival. The Yalumba Stakes is held at Caulfield racecourse on Guineas Day and forms part of three Group One races on the card, alongside the Caulfield Guineas and Toorak Handicap. It is a race for good horses and is usually contested by top gallopers from around the country. Horses of the calibre of El Segundo, Northerly, Juggler and Might and Power have won this race and has been a resonably good guide to the Caulfield Cup, WS Cox Plate, and Melbourne Cup in recent times. The race has prizemoney of $400,000 and was won by Whobegotyou in 2009.
